Police name Edinburgh man killed by car

A man who died after being knocked down by a vehicle in Edinburgh city centre on Hogmanay has been named by police.

Martin Douglas from Hay Gardens in the city was struck at Union Place, near the Playhouse Theatre, at 0420 GMT on Saturday.

The 41-year-old was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and died a short time later.

Officers said a black Toyota continued on its journey before returning to the scene.
