The parents of a teenager stabbed to death in a Midlothian street have spoken of their loss.

Dale Bennett, 17, was stabbed during a disturbance on Newbyres Crescent, Gorebridge, at 0220 GMT on Saturday.

Garry and Michelle Bennett described their son, who worked as a steeplejack for Zenith, as an outgoing and popular young man who lived life to the full.

A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder and is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

In a statement released by Lothian and Borders Police, the couple said: "He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, uncle and nephew and was a very caring and loving person and we are struggling to accept he is no longer with us.

"Dale was an outgoing young man, extremely popular and lived life to the full."

They added that the teenager was close to his mother, loved his younger sister Tiegan.

The statement added: "Dale was passionate about sport, was a loyal Hearts fan and loved playing five-a-sides at Newtongrange with his Dad and older brother Gary.

"One of the highlights for him was playing in a charity football match with his dad and brother against the Hibs Legends"
