Police will be carrying out extra patrols across Midlothian at the weekend, following the murder of Dale Bennett.

Extra officers will carry out high-visibility patrols in Gorebridge, Mayfield and Dalkeith, in order to identify potential witnesses.

The 17-year-old was stabbed during a disturbance on Newbyres Crescent, in Gorebridge last Saturday.

A 20-year-old man has appeared at court, charged with his murder.

Insp Mike Bennett, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "We will be mounting extra high-visibility patrols in the area on Friday and Saturday night, and officers will revisit the scene of Dale's death in a bid to identify any potential witnesses who may have been in the area last weekend.

"In addition to this, our aim is to provide reassurance to local residents who may have concerns, and to help ease any tensions that exist within the local community."
