The family of a man who died during an incident at a Fife flat have spoken of their love for him.

David Allan died at a property in Overton Mains in Kirkcaldy on Thursday. Steven Kettles, 27, has appeared in court charged with his murder.

In a statement issued through Fife Constabulary, the 44-year-old's parents and daughter Samantha said his loss had left a big hole in their hearts.

They said he was adored by all who knew him and was nothing but a gentle giant.

Mr Allan's daughter added: "My dad was a big part of my life. I loved him lots and will miss him dreadfully."

Court appearance

Mr Kettles appeared on petition at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court charged with murder and breaching a bail order related to another matter.

He made no plea or declaration at the private hearing and was remanded into custody.

The case was continued until next week for further examination.

Fife Council described the flat where Mr Allan died as a "scatter flat" for those needing temporary accommodation.

It is understood Mr Allan lived in another flat in the building.
