Edinburgh Muirhouse attack on boy in church grounds

A man who attacked a boy out playing with his sister in the grounds of a church is being sought by police.

The 11-year-old was grabbed by the neck, pinned up against a fence then thrown to the ground at St Paul's Church in Muirhouse Avenue, Edinburgh.

The man ran off and caught a bus on Pennywell Road following the incident at about 1615 GMT on Monday.

He was described as being in his early 20s, 5ft 8in (1.7m) tall, of slim build, and having a full moustache.

He was wearing black tracksuit bottoms and a red hooded Nike jumper, with the hood pulled up over a Nike baseball cap.

A Lothian and borders Police spokesman said: "Although he wasn't injured, this has been a terrifying experience for the young boy.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time, and who may have seen what happened, to get in touch."
