Unprovoked Musselburgh attack knocks men unconscious

Youths who knocked two men unconscious and left them with serious injuries during an unprovoked attack in East Lothian are being sought by police.

The men, aged 56 and 27, were walking on Eskside West across the Roman Bridge on their way home from Riverside Pub in Musselburgh when they were attacked.

The older man suffered a fractured jaw and the younger man a broken nose.

They were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after the attack at 0115 GMT on Saturday.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said the men were knocked to the ground before the youths repeatedly kicked them to the head and body.

He said: "We are appealing for witnesses to this attack.

"It was a particularly nasty incident which has left two men with serious injuries to their face and head. We would like anyone with information to contact us."
