Edinburgh stabbing was 'attempted murder'

A man with a prominent scar along his jaw is being sought by police following a stabbing in Edinburgh.

A 25-year-old man is in hospital after being stabbed near Pizza Hut on Raeburn Place, Stockbridge at about 2040 GMT on Sunday.

Police are treating the incident as attempted murder.

The attacker is white, aged about 27, up to 5ft 9in tall (1.75m), of medium build, and with short dark hair. His scar was on the right side of his face.

He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top and dark trousers or jeans.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "The area where the assault took place may have been busy with people going out or returning from nearby bars and restaurants."

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that could help with the inquiry to contact them.
