Police in Edinburgh want to speak to a group of young people who were spotted near a house which was extensively damaged by fire.

Lothian and Borders officers were called to Burdiehouse Road at about 0330 BST after reports of smoke from an unoccupied property.

There was no one inside at the time of the blaze which is thought to have been started deliberately.

A police spokesman said the youths were being sought "as a matter of urgency."

He added: "Luckily the house was unoccupied and there was no one inside, however this was a substantial fire that has caused considerable damage.

"The house is in a busy residential area, and we are also appealing for any local residents who may have seen anything suspicious to come forward immediately."
