Firefighters have been dealing with a blaze which broke out at a restaurant in the new town area of Edinburgh.

The alarm at The Bakehouse Company premises in Broughton Street was raised at about 2040 BST on Friday evening.

Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said 40 firefighters had been at the scene. The fire has now been brought under control.

The restaurant is on the ground floor of a three-storey building. The fire service said there were no casualties.

The cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious.

Keith Shaw, managing director of The Bakehouse Company, said: "We are glad that no one has been hurt and that the fire turned out to be much less damaging than previously indicated.

"We are working closely with the relevant authorities to discover the cause of the blaze."

The restaurant was likely to reopen within a couple of weeks, he added.
