Man, 92, chases Barnton bag thief

A 92-year-old man has chased a thief who stole his sister's handbag before escaping on a motorbike in Edinburgh.

The 94-year-old woman was walking in Barnton with her brother when her handbag was snatched off her shoulder on Friday at 1630 BST.

Her brother ran after the thief, who got on a motorbike driven by another person before driving off along Barnton Grove towards Queensferry Road.

The couple were unable to identify whether the thief was male or female.

However, the suspect is described as white, 5ft 5in, wearing a pale yellow anorak and a dark blue helmet.

The motorbike is described as being either silver or white.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "The victim is in a frail condition and it is lucky that she did not suffer any injury as a result of having her handbag snatched from her shoulder.

"Nevertheless, she was left understandably shaken as a result of this incident."

The spokesman appealed for any witnesses to the incident to get in touch.
