A teenager has died in hospital after a disturbance at a house party in Edinburgh at the start of the month.

Brett Lodge, 17, from the Bingham area of the city, was being treated at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. He died overnight on Friday.

Lothian and Borders Police said four youths had been arrested and charged in connection with the disturbance, which happened on Friday 1 July.

Mr Lodge's family said they were devastated by his death.

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place next week.

The four youths appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Tuesday.

In a statement, Mr Lodge's mother Gillian Lodge said: "Brett was my eldest son, and his death has been devastating to our family. He was a loving brother, son and grandson.

"He was a happy and confident young man who loved life, and was kind, caring and generous.

"Brett was the type of person who would help anybody if he could."
