Private hire taxi driver attacked in Bathgate

Police are appealing for witnesses after a private hire taxi driver was assaulted during an attempted robbery in West Lothian.

The 61-year-old man had picked up three people and taken them to Bathgate when a man began to assault the driver and an attempt was also made to rob him.

Officers said that the man and a woman fled the car towards Belvedere Lane.

A second woman, who was also in the car, stayed and assisted police with their inquiries.

The incident happened shortly after 20:15 BST on Wednesday.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "The driver was not injured, nor did he surrender any of his money, but nevertheless he was left shaken by the incident and we are investigating to find those responsible for this incident.

"Officers are currently following a positive line of inquiry but anyone who witnessed a man and a woman fleeing from the car or acting suspicious in the area is asked to contact police immediately."
