Thieves steal from community pub Dean Tavern

A community pub in Midlothian which gives most of its profits to charity has been wrecked by thieves who stole more than £3,000.

The Dean Tavern, in Main Street, Newtongrange, suffered more than £2,000 of damage during the break-in in the early hours of Monday.

Lothian and Borders Police are urging witnesses to come forward.

A police spokesman said the theft would "impact" on the charities it was intended for.

A police spokesman said: "The Dean Tavern is a community pub that donates most of its profit to various community groups and charities, and this break-in will have an obvious impact in terms of loss of revenue for these organisations.

"We are appealing for anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area of Main Street in the early hours of Monday morning to contact us.

"Similarly, anyone who has any other information that can assist our inquiries should also get in touch."
