Flat fire closes part of Edinburgh's Royal Mile
Part of the Royal Mile which was closed to traffic to enable firefighters to tackle a fire in a flat in Edinburgh has reopened.
The road was shut between Jeffrey Street and North Bridge while fire crews brought the blaze, which began at about 11:00, under control.
The cause is understood to be a chip pan fire in a second-floor flat in Fountain Court.
A 94-year-old man is being treated for burns to his hands in hospital.
An 87-year-old woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Hyndford's Close was cordoned off by Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service.
The Royal Mile was reopened at 13:40.
A Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "The flat was well alight."
