One dead and two injured in Penicuik crash

A man has died and two others have been injured following a two-car accident in Penicuik, Midlothian.

A northbound Black Vauxhall Corsa and a southbound Silver Mitsubishi L200 Warrior were involved in the crash at about 23:45 on Friday.

A 20-year-old passenger in the Corsa was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was said to be in a serious condition at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The incident occurred on the A701, south of the Gowkley Moss, Roundabout.

The passenger of the Mitsubishi also sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving hospital treatment.

The road was closed for four hours to allow full accident investigation.

The identity of the dead man will not be released until next of kin have been notified.

Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses.
