Armed robber strikes at Edinburgh bookmaker

A balaclava-clad robber stole a three-figure sum from an Edinburgh bookmakers after threatening staff with what appeared to be a handgun.

The suspect targeted the William Hill premises in Lothian Road at about 21:10 on Monday.

Police appealed for witnesses to the robbery, which took place while there were staff and customers in the shop.

The suspect was described as white, in his 20s, 5ft 7ins tall, of stocky build, with blond hair.

He was wearing a grey/black waterproof jacket, black balaclava and black hooded top over his head.
