Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick's sister dies in blaze

The sister of the Scottish Parliament's presiding officer has died following a fire in Dunfermline.

Investigations are continuing into the cause of the blaze in the town's Husband Place on Monday, which claimed the life of 60-year-old Maureen Brown.

Fife Constabulary said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick said the death of her older sister, whose husband had died recently, was a "devastating blow" to the family.

The couple had two adult children.

Ms Marwick, who has three other younger sisters, said: "We are immensely grateful for all the messages of support we have received from friends and neighbours.

"Our family greatly appreciates now being given the time to grieve together in private."

Detective Inspector David McLaren said: "A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal at Kirkcaldy in connection with the fire on Tuesday.

"At this time there appear to be no suspicious circumstances and it it is being treated as a very tragic accident."
