Man denies starting Jewel and Esk Valley College fire

A man has denied setting fire to a college in Dalkeith, Midlothian.

James Sinders, 20, was accused of wilfully setting fire to paper and folders in a cupboard at the Jewel and Esk Valley College on 20 April 2010.

Mr Sinders, who appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, was also accused of putting an aerosol can on the fire.

It is alleged that the fire spread to the building causing extensive damage. Mr Sinders, from Bonnyrigg, pled not guilty to the charge.

He is expected to appear for trial later this month.
