Midlothian Council leader Milligan charged with assault

Midlothian Council leader Derek Milligan has been charged with assault following an alleged incident at a social club in the Lothians.

The local authority's leader denies punching Alan Scott, 40, to the ground at Bonnyrigg Rose Football Club during the early hours of Monday 25 July.

The club said it had CCTV cameras and was helping the police investigation.

Lothian and Borders Police said a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said "A 51-year-old man has been charged following reports of an assault which occurred outside the premises of Bonnyrigg Rose Football Club during the early hours of Monday 25 July 2011."
