St Mirren footballer Darren McGregor denies assault
St Mirren footballer Darren McGregor has pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault in an Edinburgh nightclub.
The 26-year old, from Edinburgh, denied assaulting Chiedozi Okere in the Base Nightclub in the Cowgate on 3 July.
It is alleged he punched Mr Okere in the face, causing him to fall to the ground to his injury.
McGregor appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court and trial was fixed for February of next year. The footballer was bailed.
McGregor signed a two-year contract with St Mirren in June 2010 but in August of this year he suffered cruciate ligament damage in a game against Dundee United and is likely to miss the remainder of the season.
