Five dogs die after East Lothian caravan fire

Five dogs have died following a caravan fire in East Lothian in the early hours of the morning.

The border terriers were killed in the blaze at Paxton Metals in East Fortune, which broke out at about 00:40.

A man and woman, both aged 37, suffered minor injuries and burns after they tried to remove gas canisters from the burning caravan.

They were both taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment. An inquiry is under way to establish the cause.

Fire crews from East Linton, Haddington and Newcraighall battled the blaze but the caravan was destroyed in the fire.

More than 20 firefighters were at the incident until 02:30.
