Sex attack on woman out jogging in the Meadows

A woman has been sexually assaulted by a man while she was jogging in an Edinburgh park.

The 21-year-old was jogging past the tennis courts in the Meadows when she was attacked between 18:50 and 19:00 on Tuesday.

She was grabbed by a man, forced to the ground and sexually assaulted.

She managed to fight him off and he fled towards Buccleuch Street on one of the paths. He was described as dark-skinned, possibly of Indian appearance.

He was about 30-years-old and 5ft 10ins tall, clean-shaven at the time and wearing a grey hooded top.

'Extremely distressing'

Police said there was nothing to suggest the attack was linked to another one in the area last week, although officers are "keeping an open mind" at this stage.

There will be a continued police presence in the Meadows to provide reassurance to the public.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "This was an extremely distressing ordeal for the victim, who bravely fought off her attacker before he made his escape.

"We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of the Meadows last night, who witnessed the incident, or noticed anyone acting suspiciously there, to contact police immediately."
