'Would-be thief' trapped under steamroller in Tranent

A man was trapped for an hour-and-a-half under an eight ton steamroller which he was allegedly trying to steal.

The 25-year-old was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he is being treated for a serious leg injury.

The incident took place at 15:45 on Sunday in Brickworks Road, Tranent, East Lothian.

Three men have been charged with attempted theft. The other two men, aged 26 and 47, are due to appear at Haddington Sheriff Court.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said a warrant had been issued for the 25-year-old man.
