Scotland striker Garry O'Connor has pled not guilty to charges of cocaine possession and resisting arrest.

The Hibernian player, 28, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court before Sheriff Alisdair Noble.

He is alleged to have resisted, obstructed, hindered and molested two police officers on 14 May last year at Hope Street Lane in Edinburgh.

It is said he ran from the officers who were trying to establish his details at the time of the alleged incident.

The former Birmingham City player, from North Berwick, East Lothian, also pleaded not guilty to a charge alleging that he was carrying a quantity of the class A drug at the time.

Defence solicitor Paul Sweeney told the court an advocate would be representing Mr O'Connor at his trial, which is expected to take place next month.
