Relatives of a mother and her five-year-old son who were found dead at their home in Edinburgh have paid tribute to "two very special members of our family".

Michelle Stephen, 31, and her son Leon Weston, were discovered at their home in Sighthill on Tuesday.

A family statement said the pair were "dearly loved" and would be "sadly missed".

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with their deaths.

Mrs Stephen and Leon were discovered by her husband at their home in Parkhead Grove.

The family statement, released through Lothian and Borders Police, said: "In wake of this tragic incident we would like to thank everyone for their kind words, warm condolences and tributes.

"Barry and Michelle were a couple very much in love. Both were devoted to Leon and the whole family are struggling to come to terms with the loss of two such precious lives.

"With this in mind, we would now ask for some privacy and time to grieve in peace."

The deaths of the Ms Stephen and her son are understood to have followed the death of her father Jim Weir.

A police spokesman previously said it appeared to be "a very tragic set of circumstances".

A number of floral tributes have been left at the gates of the house.
