Toddler dies after 'hot tub fall' in Bathgate

A toddler died after an accident at her home on Mother's Day, police have confirmed.

Sophie Mallin, who was 18 months old, is understood to have fallen into a hot tub while playing in the garden of her family home in Bathgate, West Lothian, on Sunday.

She was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, but died the next day.

Police said it appeared to have been a "tragic accident".

A spokesman for the Lothian and Borders force said: "Police were called to an address in Bathgate on Sunday, March 18, following an apparently tragic accident where a toddler was found injured at a property.

"The circumstances surrounding this incident are being fully explored by police to establish exactly what occurred at this address."
