Ward evacuated after fire at Edinburgh's Astley Ainslie Hospital

Twenty-six patients have been moved from a hospital in the Grange area of Edinburgh after a fire broke out.

Emergency services were called to the Astley Ainsley complex at about 17:04.

The patients, many of them elderly, were taken to the Corstorphine Hospital. Dozens of others were moved to alternative wards.

No-one was injured but the Scottish Ambulance Service declared a major incident because of the number of people who had to be moved.

The hospital specialises in care and rehabilitation for stroke patients and those who have had cardiac disease and brain injury.
