Man charged over large drugs haul

A man has appeared in court accused of possessing cannabis said to be worth about £575,000.

Gary Weir, 38, appeared from custody at Livingston Sheriff Court and made no plea or declaration to a charge of intent to supply cannabis resin.

Weir, from Whitburn in West Lothian, was refused bail and remanded in custody pending full committal for trial later this week.

The drugs were allegedly found in a van which he was driving on Friday.

It is believed to be the largest haul of cannabis ever seized by Lothian and Borders Police.
