An 18-year old girl has appeared in court charged with culpably and recklessly pushing the emergency stop button on an escalator in Edinburgh.

Nicola Scougal pled not guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to pushing the button at Waverley Station.

She denies pressing the button to stop the escalator immediately, causing Violet Roberts, 64, to fall to her injury on 10 December 2009.

Mrs Roberts suffered two broken wrists in the fall.

A trial date of August was set for Scougal, from Bonnyrigg.
