Man charged over assault on Hibs player Gary Deegan

Hibernian midfielder Gary Deegan

A man has been charged in connection with an assault on a footballer in an Edinburgh street.

Hibernian player Gary Deegan, 25, suffered a broken jaw in the alleged attack in city's George Street in the early hours of Sunday 7 October.

He was taken to hospital following the incident at about 03:00.

Lothian and Borders Police confirmed a 27-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident. He is due to appear in court at a later date.

Midfielder Deegan joined Hibs as a summer signing from Coventry and has returned to light training this week.
