Woman rescued from West Lothian fire which killed pet dog

A woman has been taken to hospital after a fire in which her dog died.

Emergency services were called to the woman's home in Bellalmond Crescent in East Whitburn, West Lothian, at about 15:00 on Thursday.

Four firefighters from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue extinguished the blaze, which had broken out in the living room.

The woman was led to safety and taken to St John's Hospital in Livingston to be treated for smoke inhalation.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said officers had tried to revive the dog, but it died at the scene.
