Woman driver stopped by 'fake' police officer in Fife

A female driver has been stopped and questioned by a man pretending to be a police officer in Fife.

The 56-year-old woman was driving between Springfield and Cupar at about 06:30 on Thursday when she was signalled to pull over.

When the man was unable to show a warrant card, the woman refused to answer questions, and drove to her local police station.

Fife Constabulary said the driver did the right thing.

The man was described as about 5ft 8in, stocky, and had a local accent.

He was standing beside a light coloured compact BMW car.

Ch Insp Jill Harper said: "This lady has acted correctly on this occasion.

"If you are unsure about anyone's identity, always ask for identification. If they cannot produce any, then either call Fife Constabulary or ask them to follow you to the police station."

Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
