Man receives serious facial injuries in Edinburgh attack
A woman wearing a pink dressing gown thought to have seen an unprovoked attack on a man in Edinburgh is being urged to contact police.
The man, aged 35, received serious facial injuries when he was attacked in Trafalgar Lane while walking home with a friend at 01:30 on Saturday.
Just seconds before, the victim had seen a man shouting at passers-by near the Village Pub on South Fort Street.
He was knocked to the ground during the attack.
The victim was treated at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
The attacker was described as being white, between 18 and 21 years old, about 5ft 6in tall, of stocky build with short brown hair. He was wearing a grey tracksuit top and grey bottoms.
Det Con Mark Seymour, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "This was a violent and unprovoked assault, which has left the victim badly injured.
"We would appeal to anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in South Fort Street on Saturday morning to contact police immediately.
"A woman in a pink dressing gown and another man are believed to have witnessed this attack and we would ask both of these individuals to come forward and assist with our inquiries.
"Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect is also asked to get in touch."
