An inquiry has been launched after a man's body was found in bushes at a car park at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Police Scotland confirmed it was treating the death as suspicious.

The body was found in the grounds of the hospital, off Old Dalkeith Road, at 14:45 on Sunday. A large section of the car park has been cordoned off.

Police have appealed for information regarding a group of men who may have been in the man's company at the weekend.

The victim had suffered a number of injuries.

Eastern European

Police said investigations suggested the man was one of a group of four men, possibly of Eastern European origin, who got off a bus on Old Dalkeith Road on Friday night.

Officers are keen to trace anyone who may have been in the area of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at about 22:00 on Friday, and who may have seen the men.

Det Ch Insp David McLaren, from Police Scotland's specialist crime division, east, said: "We are appealing for anyone who may have any information regarding this man's death to come forward.

"We are working to establish how this man came by his injuries, and we would be keen to hear from anyone who might have seen the group of men on Old Dalkeith Road on Friday night, and who might have some valuable information regarding this inquiry."

A spokeswoman for NHS Lothian said: "We are aware of the ongoing situation and are helping the police with their inquiries at this time."
