A driver who forced a van to stop on an East Lothian road before getting out and smashing the other motorist's window is being sought by police.

The car driver caused the van driver to brake by overtaking the vehicle and then stopping in front of it suddenly on the A6093.

It happened between 12:30 and 13:00 on Monday 1 April at the junction with the B6371 Ormiston road.

Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses.

They said a man was driving his Ford Transit from Haddington to Pathhead when a silver Citroen Saxo overtook then stopped in front of him, causing him to brake.

'Random incident'

A man then left his car and smashed the van's driver-side window and kicked the door panel before getting back into the Citroen, which then sped off.

The van driver was uninjured and contacted police.

Officers are now urging witnesses to come forward.

The attacker was white, 5ft 6ins tall, with dark hair and wearing a grey hooded top.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "This was a bizarre and random incident that resulted in the victim's van sustaining damage to its window and we are keen to hear from anyone who can assist with our enquiries.

"Motorists travelling between East and Midlothian on the A6093 on Monday last week may remember having seen the Citroen Saxo or witnessed the attack on the van.

"Anyone who has information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact police immediately."
