Police are hunting a gang of 10 teenagers who attempted to rob a woman as she walked in an East Lothian town.

The 20-year-old woman was in McBeth Moir Road in Musselburgh at about 21:30 on Sunday when she was surrounded by the group, who tried to take her phone.

Following a short struggle, the attackers fled empty-handed and the victim contacted police.

The youths were described as being white, aged between 15 and 17 and were wearing casual clothing.

One of the suspects was wearing a burgundy hooded top.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "The young woman was not injured, nor did she surrender her phone during this incident.

"Nevertheless, this was an unpleasant and distressing experience and we are conducting local enquiries to identify those responsible.

"Anyone who was in the area at the time and remembers seeing anything suspicious, or who has information that can assist with our investigation, is asked to contact police immediately."
