Man sustains head injuries in 30ft fall in St Andrews

A man is being treated in hospital for head injuries after falling over a barrier and plunging 30ft down a steep embankment in Fife.

The man in his 40s fell just before 01:00 on the steep slope next to the bridge at St Mary Street in St Andrews.

Firefighters raised the man to the road using a stretcher with the help of the coastguard.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said the man was being treated at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
