Man, 96, attacked and robbed in his own Edinburgh home

A thief has assaulted and robbed a 96-year-old man in his own home.

The pensioner was in his home in Lochend Gardens, Edinburgh, at about 17:30 on Monday when a man knocked at his door.

When he answered the door, the thief pushed him to the ground and stole a two-figure sum of cash from his wallet before making off.

Neighbours came to the victim's aid. The thief was described as white and wearing a red top.

Det Con Joe Perkins, of Police Scotland, said: "Fortunately, the elderly victim was not injured as a result of this incident. Nevertheless, he was left deeply upset after being robbed in his own home.

"We are keen to hear from local residents and members of the public who were in Lochend Avenue on Monday evening and remember seeing anything suspicious, or who can help us trace the male responsible.

"Similarly, anyone with any other information relating to this investigation is also asked to contact police immediately."
