Two comedians have been jointly named as winners of the So You Think You're Funny? competition for up-and-coming stand-ups.

Australian comedian Demi Lardner and Essex funnyman Edd Hedges were both awarded first place.

It was the first tie in the 26 years that Edinburgh Fringe venue Gilded Balloon has been running the contest.

Previous winners include Peter Kay, Dylan Moran, Lee Mack, Phil Kay, Tommy Tiernan and David O'Doherty.

There have only been two previous female winners: Rhona Cameron in 1992 and Aisling Bea last year.

Top comedian Sarah Millican, who was one of the judges, presented the awards.

Before Thursday night's final there had been heats in Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Dublin, Glasgow, Inverness, Leeds, Leicester, London and Manchester.
