Images of a man police want to trace in connection with a robbery in Edinburgh's city centre last year have been released.

A 24-year-old man was assaulted and robbed of money he had just withdrawn from a cash machine on the south side of the Grassmarket.

It happened at 22:00 on Thursday 26 July 2012. He was also seen in the Cowgate shortly before the robbery.

He is white, 16-20 years old, between 5ft 2ins and 5ft 6ins and slim.

He was wearing a grey hooded top, dark beanie style hat, dark tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

He also had a scar on his left cheek just under his eye and spoke with a local accent.

Anyone who recognises the man in the images is asked to contact police.

Det Con Kevin Watt, of Police Scotland, said "Fortunately the victim was not seriously injured as a result of this incident, but was understandably shaken by the ordeal.

"The police wish to speak to the male shown in the CCTV images and anyone who recognises him is asked to contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone with any other information that can assist with our investigation is also urged to come forward."
