Two men arrested after serious assault in Edinburgh

Police have arrested two men following a disturbance outside an Edinburgh pub in which two other men were seriously assaulted.

A 31-year-old man needed 36 stitches to his back and a second man, 23, suffered a head injury during the incident on Leith Walk.

The disturbance took place outside the Volunteer Arms shortly after 01:00 on Saturday.

Two men, both aged 26, were charged in connection with the incident.

They will appear in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

The 31-year-old was released from hospital after treatment, while the 23-year-old remains in St Johns Hospital, Livingston.

Police are keen to speak to a man who was in the vicinity at the time of the disturbance.

He was described as white, in his early 20s and of heavy build with light brown short hair.

He was wearing a black top, light jacket and blue jeans.
