Armed shop robber sought by police in Midlothian

An armed robber who held up a Midlothian shop before demanding money is being sought by police.

The incident happened at about 15:20 on Monday 7 April at the Newsboyz store in Pentland Terrace, Penicuik.

A 44-year-old man was working alone in the shop when a man entered with a knife before demanding money from the till.

The shop assistant refused and the man fled empty-handed. No-one was injured. Police are appealing for witnesses.

The robber was described as white, 5ft 8ins tall and of thin build.

He was wearing a black hat and scarf, which covered his face, a black jacket and spoke with a local accent.

Second man

Officers also believe a second man was standing outside keeping watch and inquiries are ongoing to find him.

He was white, 5ft 6ins tall and of medium build. He was also wearing a black hat and scarf, which covered his face.

Det Con Andy Hope, of Police Scotland, said: "Fortunately, the shop assistant was not injured during this incident.

"However, he was left very distressed as a result and we are eager to hear from anyone who can help us in tracing those responsible."
