Michael Nisbet jailed over naked girl pictures in Edinburgh

A 40-year-old man, who pretended to be a boy of 14 to persuade a 12-year old girl to send him naked pictures of herself, has been jailed for two years.

Michael Nisbet, from Edinburgh, will also be supervised for a further three years on his release.

Nisbet pled guilty previously to two charges involving the girl between 12 December 2013 and 31 January 2014.

He also admitted possessing and taking indecent pictures of children between 1 December 2013, and 4 March 2014.

Sentence had been deferred for background reports.

Indecent images

Michael Nisbet, a prisoner in Saughton, who also sent the girl indecent pictures of himself was told by Sheriff James Scott at Edinburgh Sheriff Court: "Given your lengthy record of offending, I have no doubt that the only sentence available to me is a custodial one.

"The court is duty bound to protect young people from you".

Police raided Nisbet's home on 14 March 2014 after receiving a tip-off that he was in possession of indecent images of children, and found several of the images were of the same young girl.

She was wearing a school uniform and officers were able to trace it to a school in Southampton and discovered that the girl was 12 years old.

Sheriff Scott was told previously by Fiscal Depute, John Kirk, that there were 762 still images and 29 movies recovered from Nisbet's computer and mobile phone following his arrest and that he had a previous conviction for an analogous offence.

Defence solicitor, Eilidh Yates, said Nisbet had been released from prison for that offence in January 2012.

She said he had a number of medical problems, including depression and agoraphobia.

The depression, she said, was as a result of "a difficult upbringing".

Her client, she added, had suffered from sexual abuse from the age of 11.

Nisbet was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
