Gordon Veitch charged with joiner's murder in East Lothian

A man has appeared in court accused of murdering a joiner who was found dead in his East Lothian country cottage last year.

Gordon Veitch appeared in private at Haddington Sheriff Court charged with the murder of Brian Bathgate.

Mr Bathgate, 45, was found dead in the living room of his cottage at Barney Mains Farm on the outskirts of Haddington on 15 March 2013.

Mr Veitch, 54, made no plea or declaration.

The case was continued for further examination and he was released on bail.

Mr Veitch, from Haddington will return to court to face the murder charge on a date still to be determined.

The body of the father-of-four was discovered by his brother Roy after his family had become concerned he had not been in touch or had turned up for work at a local building company.
