Police link three suspicious fires in Edinburgh

Police are investigating three suspicious fires in Edinburgh which appear to be linked.

The first two incidents happened on Pilton Avenue and Crew Road West within 20 minutes of each other on Monday.

In the first, at 22:30, there was an attempt to set fire to a garage and in the second, at 22:50, a car was set alight.

The third fire happened in Boswall Gardens at about 00:30 on Wednesday when another car was torched.

In the first incident a suspect was seen vandalising a garage with graffiti before attempting to set fire to it.

In the second incident a man was seen entering the driveway with a can of petrol and setting a car alight. He made off in the direction of Crewe Road Gardens.

The suspect was described as being white, in his late teens to early 20s, and was wearing a grey hooded top and trousers.

PC Joanne Robertson said: "We are linking these three suspicious fires and are looking to trace the suspect who we have a more detailed description of during the incident on Crewe Road West on Monday evening."
