Police investigating the rape of a woman in an Edinburgh street have made a fresh appeal for information.

The 21-year-old was attacked in Eyre Place at about 04:00 on Wednesday.

Detectives said they had now traced a "good Samaritan" who came to the victim's aid.

They are still looking for a man described as Asian, aged 20 to 30 with short dark hair. He was smartly dressed, wearing a blazer, and may have left in a silver car.

Det Insp Keith Fairbairn said: "I'd like to thank all those who came forward with information but our appeal to the public is ongoing.

"We are very keen to speak to any taxi drivers that may have been in the area of Eyre Place, Edinburgh, between 03:00 and 04:00 on the morning of Wednesday 8th October."
