Deaths of woman and brother in Penicuik 'not suspicious'

An elderly woman found dead at home with her brother died from natural causes, police believe.

The bodies of Williamina Thomson, 80, and John Guthrie, 78, were discovered at a property in Penicuik, Midlothian, on Monday.

It is understood they had been dead for some time.

A post-mortem examination was carried out and police have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances.

Widower Mrs Thomson was reportedly housebound and was being cared for by her brother, who had moved in to the house in Royal Court.

A Police Scotland statement said: "There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding either individual's death, however further forensic inquiries are still to be carried out.

"In line with routine practice, a report has been forwarded to the procurator fiscal."
