Morningside OAP death: Robert Buczek to stand trial
A man is to stand trial in February charged with murdering an 85-year-old woman in her own home in Edinburgh.
Robert Buczek, 24, made his first public appearance in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow.
Mr Buczek is accused of attacking Eleanor Whitelaw at her house in Morningside on 11 July 2014.
It is claimed Mr Buczek repeatedly struck the pensioner on the neck and body with a pair of scissors or similar implement.
He is also said to have inflicted "blunt force trauma" on her head and body by means unknown.
The murder charge states Miss Whitelaw was left so severely injured she died at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on 28 July.
The accusation also alleges Mr Buczek robbed the pensioner of stamps, a box of spoons, cameras and jewellery.
His QC Brian McConnachie entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
Judge Lord Bannatyne set a trial date for February in Glasgow.
