Attempted robbery of Edinburgh taxi driver

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following the attempted robbery of a taxi driver in the west of the city.

A private hire driver was sent to an address on Newton Street in the Gorgie area to collect a fare at 04:20.

The man approached the taxi with a knife and demanded the driver hand over money.

The suspect ran away empty handed on to Wheatfield Street.

He was described as white, aged 18 to 25, of medium build, with short brown hair and a clean-shaven face.

He was wearing a dark blue hooded zip-up top, dark trousers and white and black trainers.

Officers are urging anyone with information to contact them.
