Mugger subjected woman, 82, to 'appalling' assault in Musselburgh

An 82-year-old woman has been subjected to an "appalling" assault and robbery in a street in East Lothian.

The woman was pushed to the ground by the male attacker and left "shaken" by the incident near Brunton Hall in Musselburgh at about 17:20.

The thief took her handbag and shopping bag in the latest in a spate of bag snatches in the area, police said.

The attacker was white, in his 30s, short with a slim build, brown curly hair and wearing a blue anorak.

Det Con John Fortune of Police Scotland said: "This was an appalling assault and robbery, leaving the elderly victim very shaken and sore.

"This is one of a spate of bag snatches in Musselburgh and is being investigated under Operation Formby."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
